In 2010 I cofounded a map design company called Carticulate and began creating transportation maps with the goal of making transit more visible in US cities. UrbanTrans, an urban planning organization based in Toronto, recognized Carticulate’s vision and hired us for the Asheville Regional Transit System redesign project (Ride the ART). In a comprehensive design auditing process working with the city of Asheville, we created the full system map, individual route maps, the back of the map brochure, and route schedule designs. The System Map was featured in the NACIS Atlas of Design and the design system we created for the maps and wayfinding tools are still in use in Asheville.
